The City of Vadnais Heights has received questions from residents about how to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey, which made landfall on August 25 and has caused flooding in the Houston area.
Make sure your donations are going to the people that need help. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has a great article on "Wise giving in the wake of Hurricane Harvey."
If you suspect you've encountered disaster fraud report it to the National Center for Disaster Fraud at (866) 720-5721. The line is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Additionally, e-mails can be send to disaster@leo.gov, and information can be faxed to (225) 334-4707.
A couple of recognized, national organizations to consider giving to include:
The Red Cross - www.redcross.org
The Salvation Army - www.salvationarmyusa.org
The Greater Houston Community Foundation - https://ghcf.org/hurricane-relief/
