[ARCHIVED] Filing for City Office

There are three seats up for election on the City Council in 2022: (1) Mayor and (2) Council Members. The Mayor serves a two-year term of office and council members serve overlapping four-year terms. To be an official candidate, an individual must submit a filing fee ($5.00) and an affidavit of candidacy to a filing officer (Deputy City Clerk at City Hall or the Ramsey County Elections Office), during the designated period of August 2 through August 16, 2022.

Candidate Eligibility

Any individual considering candidacy should verify they are qualified before filing for office. When filing an affidavit of candidacy, individuals must state under oath that they:

  • Are eligible to vote.
  • Will be at least 21 years of age upon taking office.
  • Will have been a resident of the district for at least 30 days before the general election.
  • Have no other affidavit on file for the same primary or ensuing general election.
