[ARCHIVED] Prevent Frozen Water Lines

Please remember that cold temperatures can lead to frozen water lines. To prevent frozen lines, periodically check the temperature of your water coming from a faucet in the lowest level of your home. Thermometers can be found in hardware or variety stores. If the temperature is below 38 degrees, it is a good practice to let a faucet run continuously until your water temperature is above 38 degrees. A stream of water the thickness of a pencil is typically adequate.

Frozen water services are rare in Vadnais Heights, but can be expensive and disruptive when they do occur. It is more common to have frozen pipes located within unheated crawl spaces or closets; if that applies to you just open the door so the space gets warmer.
