The Garceau Task Force, comprised of city staff, community/business representatives and residents, met six times from May-October 2019. The Task Force was established to advise the City Council on future land uses for the City-owned property through a community engagement process.
The final recommendation brought to the November 19, 2019 City Council meeting, is to consider marketing the site for a brewery/distillery by reusing the existing Garceau building. This will be pursued for a period of six months to generate interest and procure a buyer/user of the site for this purpose. If efforts to procure a buyer/user are unsuccessful after six months, the City will reevaluate and market the property for multiple use options including housing with green space.
Recruitment letters were mailed out in early January 2020 to 300+ established breweries and distilleries across Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota.
