If you were involved in protests, vigils, or neighborhood events, the Minnesota Department of Health is recommending COVID-19 testing. Free testing is available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays through June 24.

Effective March 16, 2020, the Mayor declared a local emergency. At the May 19, 2020 City Council Meeting, the declaration of a local emergency was extended and will continue until the Governor of the State of Minnesota declares the emergency is over.

At the meeting, the Mayor acknowledged the cancellation of Commencement ceremonies and offered an opportunity to honor this milestone for the Class of 2020. Senior pictures may be submitted to the city to be placed one of our several digital billboards around town.

Governor Walz’s “Stay Safe MN” executive order begins Monday, Monday 18. Retail stores, malls and other main street businesses can reopen if they have a safety plan and operate at no more than 50 percent occupancy. Restaurants, bars, salons and gyms remain closed. Minnesotan may gather with friends and family in groups of 10 or less. For more on the Governor’s order, visit

Along with the executive order, Vadnais Heights City Hall is open to the public. Staff will follow a COVID-19 Preparedness Plan for facilitating a safe environment for city operations. All business with the public will be conducted behind a plexi-glass shield. We encourage residents to continue to use phone, mail, online payments or our outdoor drop box as much as possible.

City Council passed a resolution on May 5, 2020, which strongly encourages Governor Walz to re-open Minnesota as soon as possible as long as businesses meet CDC guidelines.

Ramsey County residents can learn about COVID-19 help available from the county and get their questions answered at a series of COVID-19 Community Virtual Town Halls this month. A series of six online community town halls will run May 11-May 19 spotlighting financial assistance, social services, veterans services, public health, community corrections and housing stability.

Governor Walz announced the Stay Home Executive Order is extended until May 18. Beginning May 4, retail businesses and other non-critical businesses can offer curbside pick-up. More on the extension:

On Wednesday, April 8, Governor Tim Walz extended the executive order to stay home through May 4. Please continue to stay home except for essential needs.

On Tuesday, March 25, Governor Tim Walz ordered Minnesotans to stay home starting March 27 at 11:59 p.m. through April 10, and limiting going out only for essential needs.

Due to current CDC and MN Department of Health guidelines, Parks and Recreation programs and events are cancelled through May 10. Registrations are still being accepted for later programs. Any further cancellations due to the response to COVID-19 will result in full refunds as applicable.
