2020 Census

What is the 2020 Census?

Every 10 years, the U.S. Census Bureau conducts a census to count or survey those living in the United States and the five U.S. territories. The results of the census help determine congressional representation and federal funding.

By April 1, 2020, every home will receive an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census. Once the invitation arrives, you should respond for your home in one of three ways: online, by phone, or by mail. This year's census may be completed online for the first time, making it easier than ever to participate. Participating in the census is required by law, even if you recently completed another survey from the Census Bureau.

Why is the Census Important to Vadnais Heights?

The census is critical to better understanding and representing our community. The data collected:

  • Determines our representation (number of members) in the U.S. and Minnesota House of Representatives.
  • Guides federal funding to communities for schools, roads, hospitals and emergency services.
  • Assists businesses in deciding where to locate or build their facilities, recruiting employees and conducting market research.
Everyone counts! The city wants to reach everyone and ensure a complete count that represents our community.
